Free Will: Chapter One Teaser

My introduction to the sport of BASE took place when I spent an afternoon surfing the web, coming across the BASE forums and reading through the comments and articles.

I wrote the first two chapters of this story within two days and posted it on BASEjumper.com for review by it’s members.

This opened up an avenue for friendships and in turn lead to conducting interviews with some of the most intriguing participants of the sport. Every interview I conduct is a partnership to share their personal story and spread the positive of BASE.

And there you have it, the truth about the who, what, where, when’s of how I went from a casual BASE internet surfer to standing in the cold rain for hours waiting for some of the most wonderful people in my life to jump from the Troll Wall in Norway.

Trust me when I say that if it were not for those particular individuals, I would have remained in my hotel bed.  In the end, it’s not about the jump, it’s about the people.

Free Will: Chapter One

Raven normally made his jumps with his roommate and a couple buddies from the local drop zone but tonight he was on his own.    He had been antsy all week and really wanted some alone time although his mentor always cautioned about the heightened safety risks of jumping solo  in his view the stakes were high regardless.  The target building was a well known jump spot for the locals, although he had never jumped it himself.  He hadn’t racked up jumps like some of the guys had, but he had more than enough skydiving experience to feel confident in his ability to make this jump.  After all, 42 different objects and over 300 jumps weren’t too shabby for a 3 year jumper.
